So you've decided to get married in Jamaica. Before you go down that massive rabbit hole, here's how to plan a destination wedding in Jamaica the easy way.
Hire a travel agent first
Your first instinct might be to reach out to the resort directly. The thing is, the resort wedding teams are managing the weddings happening right now, which means your inquiry, as important as it is, can sit in their inbox for weeks before you get a response that doesn't even fully answer your questions.
When you work with a travel agent (like me), you're the priority from day one. Instead of being flooded with resort emails weeks later, you get a personalized shortlist of the best options for your wedding, based on your guest count, vibe, and budget, without having to do the research yourself.
Choose an all-inclusive resort over an off-resort venue
Everything has its pros and cons, but most couples find that an all-inclusive resort functions like a true one stop shop. Your guests aren't navigating transportation between a ceremony venue and where they're staying.
The vendors are already onsite. The wedding locations are built into the experience. It simplifies the planning on your end too, especially when you have a travel agent coordinating guest travel and room blocks alongside your planning.

Decide early
A 12–18 month window is the sweet spot for destination weddings. It gives your guests more time to commit, plan and make low monthly payments toward their rooms. The earlier you book your resort, the better your availability and your options.
Choose three date options
Some couples have their dates secured up to three years in advance. Your first choice might not be available, and going back to the drawing board on dates after you've already built excitement is its own kind of stressful.
Coming to the table with three options means the resort can tell you immediately what's available and you can move forward without the back-and-forth.

Do a soft RSVP
Before anything is confirmed, get a rough headcount. This lets your travel agent know how many rooms the resort should hold for your group so you're not overbooking (or under-booking) in either direction. It also helps with budgeting, package selection and resort negotiations.
Decide on your non-negotiables
Resort wedding packages won't include everything you'd want, so identify three to five things you genuinely can't compromise on.
If photography and video are at the top of that list, invest there and scale back on décor. Clarity on your non-negotiables makes every other budget decision easier.
Decide on your wedding vibe early
Adults-only or family-friendly? Intimate dinner after a ceremony, or full reception? Knowing this early shapes which resort you choose, what package makes sense and what your guest experience will be like.
The earlier you have this figured out, the smoother everything that follows becomes.

Consider getting legally married at home
Getting legally married in Jamaica isn't insanely difficult, but some couples find that a symbolic ceremony here means fewer administrative requirements to manage across two countries.
It really comes down to what feels right for you. (You can read more about the difference between a legal and symbolic wedding here → Legal vs. Symbolic Wedding)
If you're a give it to me straight vs watered down and politically correct kinda person, we might make a great team.
You can learn more about how I work with destination wedding couples and if it makes sense for you, schedule a 15-minute Meet & Greet. A Meet & Greet it's where we figure out what you actually need and whether I'm the right travel agent to help you plan travel for your destination wedding.
